Spike Himself — As we all know by now, TC is currently in a rebranding process. The new website will go live soon, and with that our logo will change, our style will change and also our avatars will change.

Here they are (the samples, that is)

       

Our current/old avatar style was based around a simple linework image. Well, no longer. As illustrated in the examples above, the new avatars will have to adhere to the following guidelines:
– The avatar will contain one simple solid image
– The image will be centered on the avatar, with a roughly equal margin on all sides
– The image must be presentable in two colours or otherwise remain presentable when transformed into a two colour image.

Consistency and quality control

Another important part of our rebranding process is our goal to maintain a consistent style in all artwork we use anywhere. Our artwork is our business card to the outside world. It defines people’s first impression of us and it represents who we are. As such it is important that our artwork remains consistent with our theme and, more importantly so, complies with our quality standards.

This means that we will have one designer and we need to ask of you that nobody attempt to create their own TC-themed artwork without our designer’s (or my own) explicit permission. That includes avatars.

New images

As you can see in the sample avatars above, some of us will be able to keep our current avatars, some of us may be able to have the original image their avatar was made from transformed into the new style, but most of us will have to find a new image altogether.
For this reason we decided that, regardless of whether your current avatar is still usable in the new style or not, this would be an ideal time to look for a new one, should you wish to change your avatar’s image at all.

Alright, cool, so how do I get my new avatar??

As I continue working on our new website, eventually I will create a page that we can use to request new avatars. Until then, though, avatar requests will go via myself.

Because literally every single avatar will have to undergo a change, we are going to do this in phases. Team by team, more or less. To compensate for waiting times for our current avatars, the order in which we will process the new avatars are, roughly:
1. Storm
2. Vintage
3. Crash
4. Punkka
5. Other community members including staff

We ask that you start your search for new imagery now so as to make the rebranding process as smooth as possible. Please bear in mind the aforementioned guidelines. We will be a lot more strict on what we’ll allow. If the image of your choice does not work with our new style, you will have to find a new image.

As mentioned ages ago in the first rebranding related news post, the fine people of Reditio will, at some point in the near future, cease to sport their customised avatars altogether. I will share the official TC logo avatar with each of you individually as soon as it is made available to me.

tl;dr

– We are getting new avatars
– You probably have to search for a new image (do it now)
– You may search for a new image even if you don’t need to
– Spike or your team leader will contact you when it’s time to change your avatar
– Not much of this applies to you if you are in Reditio.
– TurboTabs hasn’t tagged up or used a TC avatar in forever. Everyone message him on Steam about this, please.
