New Life

Team Colonslash venture into the world of e-sports. We have made it through a big rebranding process and are ready to start making a name for ourselves. Keep reading to get all the juicy details!

New website

After many dramatic Mumble meetings, discussions and brainstorms, our overcrowded development team finally brought us a newly designed website! The website voyage is far from over and there is still a lot of work to be done, but this is our first brave step on the path we’ve set.

Some of the major changes include:

  • Complete redesign and logical rearrangement of content
  • Fully featured Team Manager frontend for team leaders
  • Announcement/news based approach, removal of forums
  • Website subsection for each e-sports title we support
  • Website subsection dedicated to our TF2 community

By moving Community into a separate section of our site, we hope to shed a bit more light on events and happenings that made Team Colonslash what it is today.

New community staffing

Let’s be honest, there have been situations where community needs were not heard, or information has been misinterpreted. Having a perfect middle man, an active member of staff and (more importantly) a key participant in the community, can only help us communicate better amongst ourselves.

To that end, we have promoted Oxy to Community Manager (oh that poor guy, he doesn’t know what he has got himself into). You can all expect classic Sheep community events in the future, the word on the street is that Wheel of Misfortune is the new meta in Team Fortress 2! Contact our new Community Manager for additional information, or check How to run a TC event and run your own event!

Just to clear things up, as not all pages on the website are entirely up-to-date yet, the current TC staff is as follows:

  • Spike Himself – Founder, Manager
    • Team Colonslash e-sports
      • Drackk – Team captain Team Fortress 2
    • Team Colonslash community
      • Oxy – Community Manager
        • Reservoir, Drackk, Marik – Community Staff
          • Whitepeach, Oxy, Swellfoop, Useless – Team captains
    • Website
      • Lyrete – News writer
      • Reservoir, Oxy, Useless – Project team “Website content”
    • Finance
      • LC Accountancy Services – Accountancy
    • Media
      • Silvy – Graphic designer

New forums?

“So, yep I know I’m probably boring with that but, can you just to the guy who make avatar to put a smile one the frog face? and not that kind of mouth “~” the frog have at the time?”
— Ligz (our forums in a nutshell)

As a last part of our website changes, we would like to do a small post mortem of our forums. As they saw very little use, thanks to Mumble, the forum section has been removed. In the future all new announcements can be found under the specific Community section.
Farewell forums, you will not be missed.

New looks

The changes don’t stop here! As you might have noticed, over the past weeks Team Colonslash underwent a massive change of style. The decision was not made lightly and it involved numerous and lengthy discussions in all Mumble channels. We had decided upon one style, only to have it changed a few days later.
The final showdown was made in a big Team Colonslash meeting, where the community voted for the style presented to you here:

— Every avatar has a story

The process was lengthy and exhausting, but we are incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved – and even more importantly the way in which we achieved it. The TC Staff are incredibly grateful that the community showed maturity and patience in avatar design. Even more, we are thankful for having a hard working volunteer in our ranks – Silvy Rusch. She is responsible for our avatar and website design (check her portfolio here) and without her help our avatar wishes would just be words on a blank paper.

New future

Our short term goals are slowly being accomplished, which we are really quite proud of. Still, we have many plans for the future of our community. For the first time in three years, Team Colonslash is looking to branch out to other games. We shall be invading the world of e-sports and we shall be making a name for ourselves. While our focus will for the most part be on exactly that, we will never forget where we came from, and continue to cherish the heart of Team Colonslash: our community.

If you want to help our staff in achieving our goals, please let us know! At the moment we cannot offer anything in return, apart from our gratitude, but there are bright days in our future (we refuse to believe otherwise).

There will also be changes in our future website activity. We will try to cover all significant e-sports news, cups, leagues and events. Team Colonslash is not an island and we hope that with interesting and relevant information, we can become an e-sports hub ourselves. We would also ask all community members to let us know if they would like to publish something of their own (frag videos, guides, etc.), or if there is something we forgot to cover!

Stay polite TC, enjoy your holidays :)
